THE GREAT MOSQUE OF ROME Immersive Experience
After two years of development, No Real is proud to present a project that opens new horizons for Italian cultural heritage worldwide: “The Great Mosque of Rome – Immersive Experience”.
The immersive exhibition will debut at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha (Qatar) within a digital “cave” composed of two large, facing “C-shaped” video walls measuring 13×3 meters. On one side, the documentary “Light upon Light” will be screened, dedicated to the architectural genesis of Paolo Portoghesi’s work and his ability to create a symbiosis of Western and Middle Eastern styles, materials, and techniques. On the other side, visitors will be able to use VR headsets to explore a faithful 1:1 scale replica, both interior and exterior, of the entire building complex.
The 3D reproduction, entirely developed by No Real Interactive, will allow the public to be guided by avatars in Italian, English, and Arabic. A work that represents a bridge between cultures, capable of granting the “superpower” of sharing the same space to visitors in the physical world and users in the virtual world, facilitating the exact same process of cultural acquisition.
The project was promoted by the Embassy of Italy in Qatar, in collaboration with Qatar Museums and Qatar Foundation, and with the support of Sapienza University of Rome and the Islamic Cultural Centre of Italy. The inauguration will be held on September 21st at 5:30 PM in Doha, in the presence of academic and institutional partners, and the exhibition will remain open until November 21st.
